Volleyball Recap: Athens Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Athens had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Medford Raiders on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Bluejays in their meetings with the Raiders: they've now lost three in a row.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Medford scored at least 17 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-17.

Sy'Rih Hartwig paced Athens' offense, picking up six kills. Hartwig got some help from Karly Eckert and her eight assists. Finally, Hartwig was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high two blocks.

Coincidentally, Athens and Medford will both be playing Stanley-Boyd the next time they take the court. The Bluejays will host the Orioles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Raiders will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
