Softball Recap: Conotton Valley Victorious

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Conotton Valley nor Strasburg-Franklin made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Rockets had just enough and edged out the Tigers 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rockets have posted since April 1, 2025.

Maddison Kelley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

Kelley wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gretchin Rolli, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Conotton Valley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Strasburg-Franklin, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Conotton Valley will host Newcomerstown at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Strasburg-Franklin, they will challenge East Canton at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.21 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
