The Miramonte Matadors will face off against the Concord Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Miramonte is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Berean Christian just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 12-11.
Maddie McKim made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Talia Hagan, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Concord played in-conference for the first time on Tuesday and got just the result they were looking for. They blew past Campolindo 16-1. The Bears not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 25th (when they won 22-6).
Aislynn Newlin made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That run marked the first that she has scored this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shay Caban, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Oriana Castro, who earned three RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Concord kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Concord moved to 4-9 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Miramonte, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-6.
Concord's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Miramonte hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. It's a different story for Concord, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Miramonte's hitters?
