Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Marianeliz Murillo and Makena Ferry Lead Babcock to Victory

Babcock had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 20-point drubbing they dealt LaBelle on Tuesday. The Babcock Trailblazers put the hurt on the LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls with a sharp 61-41 win. The Trailblazers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 20 points or more this season.

Leading Babcock to victory were Makena Ferry and Marianeliz Murillo. Ferry posted 21 points and six boards, while Murillo scored 20 points. Meikah Ferry was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Despite the loss, LaBelle saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aariah Johnson went 6 for 13 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lainee Aguilar, who had 12 points.

Babcock pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 19.5 points. As for LaBelle, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Babcock didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-25 win against Island Coast on the 23rd. As for LaBelle, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 50-12 victory against Immokalee on the 23rd.
