Basketball Game Preview: St. Helens Lions vs. Astoria Fishermen

St. Helens is 0-6 against Astoria since January of 2023 but things could change on Friday. The St. Helens Lions will face off against the Astoria Fishermen at 5:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Wednesday, St. Helens was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 43-42 to Seaside. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 65-30, which was the final score in Astoria's tilt against Scappoose on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Fishermen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Indians are ranked 104th).

St. Helens' defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Astoria, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

St. Helens suffered a grim 79-58 defeat to Astoria in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can St. Helens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
