Baseball Game Preview: Foresthill Wildfires vs. Sacramento Country Day Cavaliers

The Foresthill Wildfires will face off against the Sacramento Country Day Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Foresthill is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Last Friday, Foresthill came up short against Valley Christian and fell 9-4.

Foresthill saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Silveira, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sacramento Country Day). They blew past Encina 27-9 last Friday. The Cavaliers have beaten the Bulldogs the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.

Max Weitzman was a standout: he scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. He has become a key player for Sacramento Country Day: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Ryan Scripps was another key player, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, three runs, and one double.

Sacramento Country Day was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Foresthill's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Sacramento Country Day, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Foresthill has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sacramento Country Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went Foresthill's way against Sacramento Country Day in their previous matchup back in March, as Foresthill made off with a 29-5 victory. Will the Wildfires repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
