Baseball Recap: Saguaro Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Desert Mountain, Saguaro was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the ALA - Gilbert North Eagles.

Nate Wachinski looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chasen Niemann was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Gilligan, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Saguaro is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. ALA - Gilbert North's record is now 5-5.

Coming up, Saguaro will take on O'Connor at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for ALA - Gilbert North, they will square off against Cactus at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Cactus has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something ALA - Gilbert North will no doubt try to take advantage of.
