Softball Game Preview: Seton Catholic Cougars vs. Fort Vancouver Trappers

For the second straight game, Seton Catholic will face off against Fort Vancouver. The Cougars will face off against the Trappers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Seton Catholic has 11 straight victories, Fort Vancouver has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Seton Catholic had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Fort Vancouver on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Trappers a 10-0 shutout. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Jocelyn Kender was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kenzie Kuhnhausen was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Grace Farrell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Seton Catholic's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games.
