Softball Recap: Somerset Academy Triumphs

On Monday, the Somerset Academy Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the American Patriots.

Caitlyn Diaz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Amber Munoz, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kelsey Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Somerset Academy now has a winning record of 5-4-1. As for American, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-5.

Somerset Academy and American should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Somerset Academy (ranked 99th) will meet Palmetto (ranked 316th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, American will challenge Goleman at 3:30 p.m. on April 1st up 340 places (89 vs. 429).
