Recap: Palmetto Tigers vs. DeSoto County Bulldogs
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Sarasota, the Palmetto Tigers were happy to have found some success on Friday. They had just enough and edged DeSoto County out 45-42. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 21 to 9 on the offensive boards, as Palmetto did.
Palmetto got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zamarria Green out in front who scored eight points along with 16 rebounds. Those 16 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Leilani Phele was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, DeSoto County still got an impressive performance from Keyara Montinat, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Janeris Bing, who scored 11 points along with six steals.
Palmetto's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for DeSoto County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palmetto will face off against Port Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for DeSoto County, they will head out on the road to face off against Hardee at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Hardee focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
