Basketball Recap: Braighlen Thompson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Pontotoc over Itawamba Agricultural

South Pontotoc and Itawamba Agricultural squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but South Pontotoc had to settle for second. They took a 73-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Itawamba Agricultural Indians. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), the Cougars still had to take the loss.

South Pontotoc lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Braighlen Thompson, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. What's more, he also posted a 78% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Noah Waldrop, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 15 points and five assists.

South Pontotoc's loss dropped their record down to 19-12. As for Itawamba Agricultural, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-8.

South Pontotoc does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Itawamba Agricultural, they will take on Leake Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Itawamba Agricultural's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine games.
