Football Game Preview: Lutheran Lions vs. Standley Lake Gators + How To Watch

For the first time this season, Lutheran will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to face off against the Standley Lake Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Standley Lake took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Lutheran, who comes in off a win.

Lutheran barely beat Green Mountain the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions claimed a resounding 41-14 victory over the Rams. The matchup marked the Lions' most dominant win of the season so far.

Eli Abramson and Evan Holdridge were among the main playmakers for Lutheran as the former threw for 139 yards and four touchdowns and the latter rushed for 98 yards and one score. That's the most passing touchdowns Abramson has posted since back in September of 2024.

Lutheran's run defense was locked in: Green Mountain could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. The Lions didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.6.

Meanwhile, Standley Lake was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt a 55-28 defeat at the hands of Skyline.

Lutheran will have to keep a close watch on Teagan Leighton and Jaden Epps, a pair of players who had a big impact on Standley Lake's prior game. Leighton rushed for 94 yards and a pair of TDs, while Epps gained 156 total yards and a touchdown. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 50 yards.

The victory made it two in a row for Lutheran and bumps their season record up to 3-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 5.3 yards per carry in those games compared to only 3.33 in the others. As for Standley Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Everything went Lutheran's way against Standley Lake in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Lutheran made off with a 49-26 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
