Football Game Preview: Stone Tomcats vs. East Central Hornets

The Stone Tomcats will challenge the East Central Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Stone is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

On Friday, Stone beat Northeast Jones 17-7.

The critical scores for Stone came from Ayden Green and Jacoby Jones.

Stone's defense made their presence known, laying out Eli Maxey three times. In that department, Cayden Luster was the leader with two sacks. Stone got some further help from Brayden Williams: he made 21 total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, East Central played in-conference for the first time on Friday and got just the result they were looking for. They had just enough and edged out Vancleave 27-24. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted since November 1, 2024.

East Central found their leader in sophomore Maddox Dunn, who rushed for 127 yards and one score, and also threw for 86 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight passes. Dunn is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 127 every time he's taken the field this season.

East Central's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Stone, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Stone strolled past East Central when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a score of 24-6. Do the Tomcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
