Baseball Recap: Sabinal Comes Up Short

Sabinal extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 6-15. They came up short against the Charlotte Trojans, falling 13-2. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 9, 2024, but that streak is no more.

As for Charlotte, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-5. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Charlotte's part, Josh Gaitan made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 16 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Gaitan has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Anthony Sanchez and Julian Cruz did most of the damage at the plate: Sanchez went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Cruz went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs. Cruz has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Sean Ramon was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
