Softball Recap: Whitley County Colonels vs. South Laurel Cardinals
Whitley County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 12-5 walloping at the hands of the South Laurel Cardinals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Whitley County of the 8-6 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.
Whitley County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Barton, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
On South Laurel's side, Kenzie Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Williams has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances. Williams was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, South Laurel got a massive performance out of Addison Baker, who scored two runs while going 3-for-6. Morgan Jackson was another key contributor, going 3-for-5 with two runs, a triple, and an RBI.

Whitley County will play host again on Friday to welcome Jackson County, where first pitch is scheduled at 6:00 p.m. Whitley County is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
