Softball Recap: Venice Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Venice had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 24-0 margin over the Fairfax Lions. Give the Gondoliers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Sandy Carrera was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run and two doubles. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Abigail Acensio, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Venice kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive contests.

Venice pushed their record up to 19-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.3 runs over those games. As for Fairfax, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-19.
