Softball Game Preview: Newman Fighting Cardinals vs. Marathon Red Raiders

For the second straight game, Newman will face off against Marathon. The Fighting Cardinals will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Red Raiders at 4:45 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Newman has struggled recently with 14 losses in a row, while Marathon will arrive with three straight victories.

Newman fell victim to Marathon and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 13-0 to the Red Raiders. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Fighting Cardinals' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For Marathon's part, Danica Staus was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave Staus a new career-high. Danica Paszek was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Newman's defeat dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Marathon, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
