Softball Recap: South Portland Has No Trouble Against Westbrook

It's playoff time, and South Portland had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Westbrook Blue Blazes 8-1 on Tuesday. The Red Riots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Maegan Berry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rachel DiMauro, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Wetzel, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double.

The victory made it two in a row for South Portland and bumps their season record up to 8-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Westbrook, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.
