Baseball Recap: Brush Find Success

Brush took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Platte Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Beetdiggers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Broncos on Monday, sneaking past 7-6. With that victory, the Beetdiggers brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Landon Mesch was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Brush is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-7 otherwise. Mesch was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Elijah Kline was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Azaviel Batrez was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Brush has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Platte Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Brush will square off against rival Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Platte Valley is set to challenge their familiar foe Sterling at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
