Softball Game Preview: Spartanburg Vikings vs. Eastside Eagles

The Spartanburg Vikings will head out to face off against the Eastside Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Spartanburg and seven for Eastside.

Spartanburg lost 17-8 to Riverside on Tuesday.

Madi House was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Ameeliyah Geter also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Eastside scored the most runs they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 15-10 to Southside Christian. Even if the Eagles couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Eastside got a massive performance out of Kayden Vinson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Addison Lowery, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

Spartanburg now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Eastside, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10-1.

Eastside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Spartanburg has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Eastside, though, as they've been averaging 10.5 hits. Given Spartanburg's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.

Spartanburg took their victory against Eastside when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 27-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
