Softball Recap: Vernonia Comes Up Short

Vernonia couldn't beat Gaston on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Loggers lost 17-7 to the Greyhounds. The Loggers have struggled against the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Cambell Zavales was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Sabina Sadikhova was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and two RBI.

Vernonia's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Gaston, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-8 record this season.

While Vernonia had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
