Basketball Recap: Edgewood Academy Piles Up the Points Against Bessemer Academy

Edgewood Academy waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They really took it to the Bessemer Academy Rebels for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-22 victory. The Wildcats pushed the score to 45-18 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rebels had little chance of recovering from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Edgewood Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Avery White, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 16 boards. Those 16 rebounds gave White a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lexie Smith, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten steals.

Edgewood Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Edgewood Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.1 points per game. As for Bessemer Academy, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Edgewood Academy has already played their next game (against Lowndes Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Bessemer Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Edgewood Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th.
