Baseball Game Preview: Buchanan Bears vs. Bakersfield Christian Eagles

The Buchanan Bears will challenge the Bakersfield Christian Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Buchanan 3.2, Bakersfield Christian 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Buchanan is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Liberty, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted against the Patriots since February 15, 2023.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bakersfield Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against Madera by a score of 8-5 on Friday.

Mccoy Silicz made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Silicz was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on London Anderson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Kadyn Kirkley was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Bakersfield Christian has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Buchanan, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-4.

Buchanan couldn't quite get it done against Bakersfield Christian in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
