Softball Game Preview: Sunrise Mountain Mustangs vs. Verrado Vipers

The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Verrado Vipers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sunrise Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.

Sunrise Mountain will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Paradise Valley on Tuesday. Sunrise Mountain's pitchers stepped up to hand Paradise Valley a 16-0 shutout. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Violet Eisentraut was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Sunrise Mountain got a big performance out of Chelsea Mcmanus, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Allison Nouzovsky, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

Sunrise Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Verrado kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 3-0 to Desert Mountain. The loss continues a trend for the Vipers in their meetings with the Wolves: they've now lost three in a row.

Sunrise Mountain's record now sits at 5-2. As for Verrado, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Sunrise Mountain suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Verrado when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Sunrise Mountain avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
