Football Game Preview: Lopez Lobos vs. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Javelinas

Lopez is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Thursday. After each having a week off, they and the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Javelinas will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. Lopez will be strutting in after a win while Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Friday, Lopez earned a 38-28 victory over Hidalgo Early College. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lobos.

Francisco Perez went supernova, rushing for 141 yards and one TD while picking up 7.1 yards per carry.

Perez was just one part of a punishing run game: Lopez was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 275 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 38-20 fall against Edinburg North.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Lopez, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Everything came up roses for Lopez against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 41-14 win. Will the Lobos repeat their success, or do the Javelinas have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
