Mike Scafidi was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Central Bucks East is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-9 otherwise.
At the plate, Jack Thompson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Nick Mutchler was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Central Bucks South sidestepped Pennridge for a 5-4 win.
Brett Barrett made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake Yang, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Central Bucks South pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Central Bucks East, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Central Bucks East hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Central Bucks South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Central Bucks East beat Central Bucks South 5-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
