Preview: Ben Davis Giants vs. Cathedral Fighting Irish

The Ben Davis Giants will head out on the road to face off against the Cathedral Fighting Irish at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ben Davis will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Ben Davis had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past Pike, posting a 53-0 win on the road. Considering Ben Davis has won seven contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Ben Davis can attribute much of their success to Thomas Gotkowski, who threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Michael Searcy also helped out with an impressive 146 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Cathedral faced Lawrence North in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cathedral enjoyed a cozy 20-3 win over Lawrence North on Friday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Cathedral.

Jalen Bonds was a one-man wrecking crew for Cathedral as he rushed for 262 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry.

Ben Davis' win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.4 points per game. As for Cathedral, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Ben Davis against Cathedral in their previous meeting back in November of 2016 as the squad secured a 51-21 win. Will Ben Davis repeat their success, or does Cathedral have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
