Basketball Game Preview: Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars vs. Northampton County Jaguars

Rocky Mount Prep hasn't had much luck against Northampton County recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars are taking a road trip to face off against the Northampton County Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Rocky Mount Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Northampton County likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Rocky Mount Prep came up short against North Edgecombe and fell 73-60.

Meanwhile, Northampton County posted their biggest win since December 27, 2024 on Friday. They put the hurt on Weldon with a sharp 70-50 victory. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while the Chargers are ranked 580th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rocky Mount Prep better keep an eye on Jiyoun Williams. He was instrumental in Northampton County's win, going 8 of 11 on his way to 17 points in addition to six assists and four steals. That's the most assists Williams has posted since back in December of 2023. Meki Ransome was another key player, as he made all 5 shots he took for 12 points and seven boards.

Northampton County is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points per game. As for Rocky Mount Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

Rocky Mount Prep came up short against Northampton County in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 76-64. Can Rocky Mount Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
