Baseball Recap: Dixie Heights Triumphs

It was close, but on Saturday the Dixie Heights Colonels sidestepped the Western Brown Broncos for a 7-5 win.

Owen Stulz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last ten matchups.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sean Mitchell, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Will Steczynski, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Dixie Heights' record is now 6-11-1. As for Western Brown, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Dixie Heights will look to defend their home field on Monday against Cooper at 5:00 p.m. The Colonels are facing the Jaguars at the right time seeing as the Jaguars are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Western Brown, they are taking a road trip to take on Mariemont at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
