Basketball Recap: Van Buren Black Knights vs. Vanlue Wildcats
Van Buren was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a hard 57-43 fall against the Vanlue Wildcats. The Black Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.
Vanlue got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Olivia Secord out in front who went 6 for 11 to rack up 18 points and seven steals. Secord is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 38 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Adrienne Phillips, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.
Van Buren's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Vanlue, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-13.
Looking ahead, Van Buren will head out on the road to take on Miller City at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Vanlue, they will take on Mohawk in a tournament on February 15th.
