Softball Recap: Amphitheater Takes a Loss

Amphitheater was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Rio Rico Hawks, falling 17-3. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Hawks from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Isabella Espinoza made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Talisa Yrigolla, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Amphitheater's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Rio Rico, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-9.

Looking ahead, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when Rio Rico Hawks challenge Thatcher Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Amphitheater will be paying especially close attention to Rio Rico's match: after Rio Rico faces off against Thatcher, they'll take on Amphitheater again at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
