Football Game Preview: Coalfield Yellow Jackets vs. Greenback Cherokees

The Coalfield Yellow Jackets will square off against the Greenback Cherokees at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Coalfield knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Greenback likes a good challenge.

Coalfield's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 55-0 win over Wartburg Central. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by 28 points or more this season.

Jaiden Bunch had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 159 yards and three scores on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Hadyn Headrick, who gained 107 total yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Coalfield proved: they limited Wartburg Central to a paltry -0.9 yards per carry. The Yellow Jackets didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 14.3.

Meanwhile, Greenback won against Wartburg Central on October 3rd with 48 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Cherokees beat Oakdale by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 48-7. The victory continues a trend for the Cherokees in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Coalfield better keep an eye on Elliott Lindsey. He was instrumental in Greenback's win, rushing for 171 yards and four TDs on only 15 carries. Lindsey is becoming a predictor of the Cherokees' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Cade Breedlove was another key back, rushing for 75 yards and one touchdown.

Coalfield's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Greenback, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Everything came up roses for Coalfield against Greenback when the teams last played back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 60-0 win. Do the Yellow Jackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cherokees turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
