Basketball Recap: Bryce Peters' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ashe County over Freedom

Ashe County lost against Freedom back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Ashe County Huskies fell 68-55 to the Freedom Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 439th, while the Patriots are ranked 147th).

Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryce Peters, who posted 17 points and five assists. Peters' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Ian Graybeal, who had 13 points.

Ashe County has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Freedom, their record now sits at 16-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ashe County will take on South Caldwell at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Caldwell knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully Ashe County likes a good challenge. As for Freedom, they will square off against Watauga at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Watauga's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
