Baseball Recap: Norwood Comes Up Short

Norwood extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-10 in the process. They came up short against the Summit Country Day Silver Knights, falling 12-0. If the Indians were looking for revenge after losing 15-0 to the Silver Knights when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Summit Country Day, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Summit Country Day's part, Keller Minton made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Minton also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Summit Country Day is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Minton was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Rylan Gentry was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Summit Country Day is undefeated when Gentry posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Phillabaum, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

While Norwood had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
