Softball Recap: Birmingham Extends Winning Streak to Four

Birmingham had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. Everything went their way against the Chatsworth Chancellors as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Annabella Venegas spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bella Gonzalez and Jasmine Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Gonzalez went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Martinez went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits Martinez has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Melanie Mora, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Birmingham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive matches.

The win got Birmingham back to even at 8-8. As for Chatsworth, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15.

Birmingham didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 21-4 victory against Cleveland on the 7th. As for Chatsworth, they have also already played their next contest, a 10-1 defeat against Taft on the 7th.
