Football Game Preview: Riverside Rangers vs. Ysleta Indians

Two dominant signal callers in Carlos Rojas III and Rodrigo Martinez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Riverside Rangers will take on the Ysleta Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Riverside comes in on six and Ysleta on eight.

Riverside took a 42-point loss the last time they faced off against Austin, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rangers had just enough and edged out the Panthers 27-24. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rangers have posted since September 13, 2024.

It was another big night for Derek Armendariz, who rushed for 135 yards on only 12 carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Riverside was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 361 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 183 rushing yards in 11 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Ysleta made easy work of Irvin on Thursday and carried off a 42-21 victory. With the Indians ahead 28-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Riverside better keep an eye on Silas Thomas. He was instrumental in Ysleta's win, picking up 127 receiving yards and four TDs. Richard Thomas also helped out with an impressive 90 receiving yards.

Riverside's record now sits at 7-1. As for Ysleta, their record is now 8-0.

Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. Riverside has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 306.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Ysleta struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 158.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Riverside didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Ysleta in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 24-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rangers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
