After a string of nine wins, Mitchell's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They came up short against the Sunlake Seahawks, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2023.

Mitchell was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Sunlake work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-16, 25-17.

Mitchell's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Perkins, who had 15 assists and seven digs. Perkins is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last seven games she's played.

Mitchell's loss dropped their record down to 15-2. As for Sunlake, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Mitchell will square off against Largo at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sunlake, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Strawberry Crest at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
