Volleyball Recap: Loretto Comes Up Short

After flying high against Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, Loretto came back down to earth. The Mustangs took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Summertown Eagles on Thursday. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Loretto started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-10, 25-19, 25-21.

Despite the defeat, Loretto saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tate Newton had 15 assists and four digs. Those 15 assists set a new season-high mark for Newton.

Loretto dropped their record down to 3-6 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Summertown, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Loretto is set to challenge their familiar foe Collinwood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Summertown will take on rival Mt. Pleasant at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
