Basketball Recap: Compton Tarbabes vs. Millikan Rams
Compton lost to Millikan back in February of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Tarbabes received a blow as they fell 90-71 to the Rams. While losing is never fun, the Tarbabes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 570th, while the Rams are ranked 37th).
Despite the loss, Compton saw an underclassman step up: freshman Suavius Denem went 6-for-14 on his way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karim Beverly, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.
Millikan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jeremiah Hunt led the charge by dropping a double-double with 25 points and ten boards. Hunt's big performance that evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Quali Giran was another key player, shooting 48% from the field to rack up 32 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.
Compton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Millikan, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Compton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 86-59 win against Ocean View on the 17th. As for Millikan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 61-51 victory against Long Beach Poly on the 16th.
