Recap: Jones Trojans vs. East Carteret Mariners

The Jones Trojans suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were outmatched by East Carteret on the road and fell 73-31. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Jones has scored all season.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dylon Darke, who scored six points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Butler, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.

Leading East Carteret to victory were Shamel Baker and Charles Matheka. Baker scored 19 points along with nine assists and five rebounds, while Matheka scored 19 points along with seven assists and five steals. Baker is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Sean Walker was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Jones and nudges their season record down to 8-6. As for East Carteret, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-7.

Jones will head out on the road to face off against Northside - Pinetown at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Northside - Pinetown is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for East Carteret, they will be playing at home against Pamlico County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Pamlico County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matchups.
