Basketball Game Preview: Minor Tigers vs. Wenonah Dragons

Minor is 2-8 against Wenonah since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Minor Tigers will head out to square off against the Wenonah Dragons at 2:30 p.m.

Last Thursday, Minor came up short against Pleasant Grove and fell 59-46. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Spartans are ranked 37th).

Meanwhile, Wenonah had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Rams as they made off with a 49-26 victory. The Dragons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 21 points or more this season.

Minor better focus on containing Samarian Franklin and Aariyanah Parker as the pair were huge in Wenonah's win. Franklin posted 18 points along with seven assists and six boards, while Parker dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Franklin has scored at least a third of Wenonah's points. Quinae Cooper was another key player, putting up six points.

Wenonah smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

This is the second loss in a row for Minor and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for Wenonah, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Minor lost to Wenonah on the road by a decisive 77-61 margin when the teams last played on Monday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Franklin, who almost dropped a double-double on 34 points and nine assists.
