The Thornwell Saints will venture away from home to face off against the Abbeville Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Thornwell not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 19, 2024. They put the hurt on Southside with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Saints' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Jaden Wilson was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3. Josef Holford was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2.
Thornwell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southside only posted an OBP of .067.
Meanwhile, Abbeville put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Ninety Six 16-3. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 4, 2023, but that streak is no more.
The team relied heavily on Ben Overholt, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also launched a home run, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lohen Nickles, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Abbeville's record is now 6-0. As for Thornwell, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Thornwell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Abbeville struggles in that department as they've averaged .532. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Thornwell suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Abbeville when the teams last played on Tuesday. Can Thornwell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
