The San Dieguito Academy Mustangs will square off against the La Jolla Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Dieguito Academy will be strutting in after a win while La Jolla will be coming in after a loss.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between San Dieguito Academy and Mission Vista, and San Dieguito Academy kept the tradition alive. San Dieguito Academy came out on top against Mission Vista by a score of 7-2 on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with Mission Vista: they've now won four in a row.
Cameron Kalt looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, San Dieguito Academy's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ben Hastings, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI. Max Saneff was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, La Jolla didn't have quite enough to beat Mar Vista on Saturday and fell 7-5.
Will Griebe-Arzate was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Zach Gergurich and Hank Hansen stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gergurich went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Hansen scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave Gergurich a new career-high in RBI.
Even though they lost, La Jolla kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
San Dieguito Academy now has a winning record of 2-1. As for La Jolla, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
San Dieguito Academy took their victory against La Jolla in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 9-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Dieguito Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
