Baseball Game Preview: NCSSM: Durham Unicorns vs. Wake Prep Academy Guardians

NCSSM: Durham is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will square off against the Wake Prep Academy Guardians at 3:30 p.m. NCSSM: Durham will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Having struggled with 17 losses in a row dating back to last season, NCSSM: Durham turned things around against Triangle Math & Science on Thursday. They blew past the Tigers 18-2. The Unicorns' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Tate Tucker was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Carter Winslow, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Wake Prep Academy was able to grind out a solid win over South Granville on Tuesday, taking the game 8-3.

Branden Sigman looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Wake Prep Academy let Russell Fowler and Ethan Hernandez run wild. Fowler scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Hernandez scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Hernandez a new career-high. Garrett Watkins was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.

NCSSM: Durham's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Wake Prep Academy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. NCSSM: Durham has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wake Prep Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

NCSSM: Durham suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Wake Prep Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can NCSSM: Durham avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
