Baseball Recap: Hawaii Prep Comes Up Short

Hawaii Prep entered their match against Honoka'a on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Hawaii Prep Ka Makani fell 6-3 to the Honoka'a Dragons. The Ka Makani were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Dragons earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Nishiki Iwai and Lex Ni were huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, Iwai didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Ni tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave Iwai a new career-high. At the plate, Iwai went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Ni scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Iwai is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's stolen at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Owen Smith, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Having lost for the first time this season, Hawaii Prep fell to 4-1. As for Honoka'a, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hawaii Prep will square off against Ka'u at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hawaii Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season. Honoka'a will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Hawaii Prep at 3:00 p.m. on April 9th.
