Baseball Recap: Erie Takes Down Ranked Legacy

Erie faced Legacy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Lightning with a sharp 14-3 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.

Maddox Burnett made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Burnett was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Erie got a massive performance out of Austin Muir, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most hits Muir has posted since back in March. Josiah Hussey also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Erie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in three consecutive games.

Erie is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Legacy, they moved to 11-5 with that defeat, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.

Coming up, Erie will be playing in front of their home fans against Skyline at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Legacy, they will venture away from home to take on Broomfield at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Lightning surely won't give up without a fight.
