Recap: Capital Christian Cougars vs. Oakland Wildcats
The Capital Christian Cougars and the Oakland Wildcats squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but sadly the Capital Christian Cougars had to settle for second. They took a 70-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (59), Capital Christian still had to take the loss.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaylen Valdez, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Valdez has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles Wiggins, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Capital Christian were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oakland only racked up nine assists.
Oakland had a senior duo take command as Anthony Lacy dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds and Jonathan Chapple scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. Isaac Johnson was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Capital Christian's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-9. As for Oakland, they have been performing well recently as they've won 16 of their last 19 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season.
Capital Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Oakland, they will be playing at home against Clovis East at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Oakland is coming into the contest with four straight wins at home, so Clovis East will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
