Softball Recap: Oberlin Comes Up Short

Oberlin extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-7-1 in the process. They came up short against the Firelands Falcons, falling 20-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 30-1 on April 14th.

Oberlin saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Selena Roberts, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

As for Firelands, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

On Firelands' side, Jeanette Crawford was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. With that strong performance, Crawford is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrynn Reichle, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with seven stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Addison Beal was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oberlin will face off against Columbia at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Phoenix's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Firelands, they will take on Keystone at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight.
