Basketball Preview: Hiram Hornets vs. Cass Colonels
Hiram has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Cass Colonels at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Hiram's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matchups.
Even though Calhoun scored an imposing 66 points on Friday, Hiram still came out on top. Hiram secured a 71-66 W over the Yellow Jackets. Given Hiram's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cass won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. Their tough 57-36 defeat to Dalton might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cass has scored all season.
Cass' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jakai Baldwin, who scored three points along with five assists and five rebounds, and Jayden Foster who scored eight points along with two steals. Baldwin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played.
Hiram's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-8. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Cass, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.
Hiram strolled past the Colonels when the teams last played last Thursday by a score of 66-49. Will Hiram repeat their success, or do the Colonels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
