Baseball Recap: Sarasota Gets the Win

Sarasota won the last time they faced St. Petersburg and things went their way on Monday too. The Sailors had just enough and edged out the Green Devils 4-3.

Breadon Mackay was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Mark Metcalf was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.

Sarasota is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for St. Petersburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.

Looking ahead, Sarasota will be playing at home against Manatee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Hurricanes have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for St. Petersburg, they will venture away from home to challenge Canterbury at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
